Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Brain injuries fall into two categories, acquired brain injury (ABI) or traumatic brain injury (TBI). ABI Acquired brain injury can result from conditions including stroke, brain tumours, infection, poisoning, hypoxia, ischemia, encephalopathy or substance abuse. TBI Traumatic brain injury results from physical trauma, for example, an accident, assault, or neurosurgery.

How can we help with ABI?

Brain injuries have both a physical and emotional impact on those that sustain them. In some circumstances, they can lead to permanent disability and can affect an individual’s understanding, emotions and behaviour, potentially creating complex health care needs and changing lives forever. Our in-house Clinical Team team is invaluable in supporting our brain injury clients. They provide devoted, expert support to clients, families, and our teams of personal care assistants. The team has long-standing experience in working with clients with brain injuries and the challenging behaviour that often results from such an injury. Providing stability and continuity of care to our clients is central to our approach. We achieve this through careful recruitment of the care team, ongoing supervision and training, and strong communication with the client and their family. Brain injuries can have far-reaching consequences, impacting those closest to an individual who has been injured – partners, families and friends. Recovering and rebuilding can be a challenging time. We aim to offer continuous support throughout the individual’s life ensuring continuity of care is being upheld.

We achieve this through careful recruitment of the care team, ongoing supervision and training, and strong communication with the client and their family.
